I am working on getting a 29 Conv Land Sed running for the NW meet in Medford. The head got cracked on 3 cylinders during a meet in 2014 when the owner accidentally "overheated it real bad". For a fellow who had been running late 20s cars most of his life to say it was real bad it had to have been almost red hot. Part of the reason was the temp sensor was not working well. My question is: last year there was a technical article about rebuilding the 29 heat sensor, does someone remember which months the two part articles were in the G & D?

The article I remember is on rebuilding the 1929 temp dash gauge. Article was August 2014. There may of been a article later on building the sender and I missed it. There is a lot of good material in that article. The end of the article mentions that the next issue of G&D will have how to repair the sender. So September 2014. Hope this helps. You might be able to message the author and ask. Craig

I think Skip means "temperature gauge".
I have one of the NORS sending units from Billy Possum in two of my 1929 cars and they both work great.

When I changed out the cylinder head I found that at some point in the past someone had used teflon tape on the sensor threads. Since the system works with the bi-metallic strips sending current to ground the tape was preventing that current from going to ground. On the tour in Medford it worked pretty well. The car did still overheat a little but discovering the cracked head 3 weeks before the tour I was pleased that we were able to complete all 350 miles of the NW meet tours without significant issues.
