Hi Guys,

Im due for a new battery and need some advice please.

Question 1:
Are you guys familiar with theV ARTA Black E29 6v 70Ah 305 battery?
Price is much cheaper than the 6V Red top OPTIMA battery.

Question 2:
With my Red top Optima, starting was great but did not seem to last if one drive with lights on. Lights go dimm and after driving with lights on it did not have enough juice to start the motor.

Generator is charging @ roughly 18Amps

regards

Awie: That happened to my 31 Cabriolet. If the points stick in your cut out , on top of your gen. that runs your battery down
while parked, then you get a dead battery, disconnect the cut out
wire & see if it gives a spark while you are parked, I installed a diode to solve that problem.

YEAH if your generator is charging while driving your should NOT kill your battery. i would check the above, and also check that you are getting that charge BACK to the battery, no loose wire connections, or undersized wires.

also verify that NO other lights are on while parked.

Can't help on the battery questions. I use 625 cca lead-acid batteries.

If the generator output is above 12 amps you risk overheating the armature. Even two 50 cp incandescent bulbs shouldn't draw enough to require 18 amp output. I typically don't run at night so the headlights are not on more than 30 minutes or so. My generators are set for ~ 8 amps which results in a couple amp discharge. Never been a problem for me. Good 32 cp bulbs in polished reflectors put out an amassing amount of light. Enough to be seen and see at the road speeds we drive at night.

If you have halogen bulbs they draw much more. Might need an alternator in that case.

A 70 AH (amp hour) battery would be insufficent.
The group ! battery commonly sold and was used by most 6 volt Chevrolets had a 90 or 100 AH rating.

Looks like you had the caps lock on when you hit the "1" key.
