Does anybody know a modern paint code for 1950 Mayland Black in lacquer? The kids in the paint stores just give me the old "deer in the headlights" look. Thanks.

The chart I have says that the 1950 Mayland black is Dupont Duco 2532122. See if they can cross reference that.

Does Dupont still make an old fashioned nitrocelious lacquer?

Doubt if they even make an acrylic lacquer any more.

The Dupont lacquers were always the blackest of the black.

Why does it have to be Dupont??

That's the trouble I'm having. Nobody seems to be willing (or able?) to mix up lacquer any more. The car's paint is original and Very black. All I want to do is repaint a couple of small areas, and keep the majority of the paint original, since it has that neat "older but still very nice" look to it. Seems all they want to do is sell me "off the shelf" black enamel. Although this may be fairly close as far as color, I wonder how it will look when painted over a small area, surrounded by the original lacquer? Very frustrating. Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

"...repaint a couple of small areas, and keep the majority of the paint original..."

How much could he repaint and it not effect the paint for HPOCF?

For the exterior to be certified up to 25 percent can be repainted - that is providing no other items in the exterior area have been restored or altered.

I have the same situation with my original 1950.There are areas where the original Grecian Gray lacquer is checking and the right rear fender has been repainted.Just need to keep the repainting to a minimum.

For spot repairs is not recommended to use acrylic lacquer over the original nitro. but I have done it in small areas and had no problem.

I used Dupont 99L acrylic on my '34 - over 30 years ago.No other brand of black is black enough to match. If you can find some of that around it will match well.

DAL 9100 is acrylic lacquer not nitrocellulose lacquer, and since it is a PPG product, it will not match the black paint that is on 40&55chevys car. :( :( :( :(
