My 1929 Chevy have the wheels with wooden spokes.
The rear wheels's spokese are all damaged (rotten wood).
I have not found in Italy a craftsman to build them.
Someone can tell me how can I do?
Is it a job that I can do alone?
Thank you and...

Hi
I am in UK and have a 1930 with wooden spokes. Fortunately mine are ok but I got them checked by a wheel wright. I think you should have such people in Italy. My guy does a lot of work with gypsies and also with historic horse drawn coaches. You need to make some enquiries.
I know that in USA there are a couple of companies that repair wheels and put new wooden spokes, but then you would have to send them to USA.
Hop that that helps.

Interesting, could you expand a bit on the procedure?

The spokes are a very challenging woodworking job because they are not round, but oval, and the end nearest the hub is a tapered trapezoid shape (designed that way to tighten up the spokes into the wheel as the hub is tightened). Very few people can do that kind of work.

I recently completed restoration of a 1929 with wood wheels. Mr. Jim Kanne of California made the new spokes for me and installed them. I sent him the rims and the hubs and a sample spoke and he returned the wheels assembled and did a beautiful job. His email address is: jayemkanne@comcast.net

While the shipping costs may be very high, you will be very happy with the results. Here's a picture of mine once completed:

You may find someone in Europe who can do the work. These "wheelwrights" work mostly on horsedrawn vehicles but can also do the wooden spokes for cars. Try an internet search for "carriage wheels".

I hope that helps you.

Interested in the aluminum spokes. Would like to hear more about it? Also if anyone reading I am looking for a 1929 rear wood wheel hub. Need one more for a set for my Cabriolet. Already posted in parts wanted.
Thanks all.

And.. Dean just had me post two short G&D articles in the MEMBERS area about rebuilding wooden spoke wheels. It's possible that the price of one-year's membership might be worth having these two articles.

Plus you get immediate access to the past 6 years of magazines.
