Hi Chevy people, I've got a 48' Fleetmaster coupe & would like to find out what overdrive unit would fit my car?. Can anyone help please. Thanks

There is an aftermarket one but I can't think of the name of it just this minute. Someone will know.

Some of us opt for a higher ratio ringgear and pinion. Powerglide in 1950 used a 3:55 and standard in 53/54 used a 3:70 (not sure of the number here). Both will lower the engine RPM per given MPH over the 4/11.

The avove alternatives will swap out with the 48.

I think the OD unit is TUNGSTON or TUNGSELL or something like that.

It is called a Truckstell. There is one on ebay now. Major work to install, as the torque tube has to be cut to install it.
I know we like stock, but the easiest way is to convert to open drive rearend with an overdrive transmission.
