Today I took my 31 to the shop to get some things accomplished. It started great at the house but I tried to restart it at the shop and it acted like a dead battery. The battery is new but I put a charger on it anyway. After a few minutes it started fine as it did several other times today. This isn't the first time that has happened. Today the chargers positive clamp was noticeably warm. I am wondering if I have a dead spot on the starter.

I suspect corroded cable ends before the battery. If you suspect a short then turn off everything and remove a battery cable. In the dark put the cable back on. See a spark = short. You can also check the voltage between cable and battery post with VOM.

A new dead battery, turn on your head lights to see if they are bright, if they are dim , jump the starter, hook the neg.to the starter case, touch the plus to the starter with the pos jumper, if it takes off then the starter is OK.
be sure the car is in neutral. Break is on.
good luck

The battery seems fine I still have to check the ends but I think they were good the last time I had the floorboards out. Another process of elimination.
