When I installed halogen bulbs in my 1950 I removed the clear lenses for the trunk lights.I did this for extra cooling. The car had plastic tail light lenses (which are brighter than glass) and the bulb heat didn't bother them.I no longer have the halogen bulbs.First problem-if in heavy traffic and brake lights are on for a period of time the directional lamp switch wires began to smoke - too much current draw. One bulb burnt out shortly after installation and the other a year later...just notice how much your ammeter needle drops when the brakes are applied.
When the brake lights were viewed from the rear in the day time the halogen lamp was only slightly brighter than the standard bulb...I would never consider using them again.I don't know what year car you have but would suggest replacing the glass lenses with plastic, clean all connections and grounds and paint the interior of the lamp with white paint. If still to dim/small I would add extra lamps or a center brake light above the license plate or????
I have noticed that when following 1951-52's the brake lamps are really hard to see.
