I don't think anyone reproduces this stainless. May go to a junkyard this week. What years of gm bodies would have the same stainless?

The back glass stainless trim would be the same for 1941-1948 Chevrolet (the Deluxe models that have the trim). Also 1941-1948 Pontiac and Olds coupes with the small GM A body.

Will I have to remove the back window to replace the stainless? Can it be removed from the outside? Will it require a new rubber seal?

Go to the old on line chevrolet manuals.....see 1946-1947 Fisher Body manual for instructions.

Hi Sid,

To remove the rear glass you will need to cut out the rubber seal if the seal is hard. Good luck trying to find the stainless that is embedded in the rubber. I tried to remove one two years ago and gave up. You will need a box cutter with several blades to cut through the old rubber and a lot of patience.

I would not purchase a new rubber if it is not from Steele. The rubber seals are hard to work with so you need the best to succeed.

Here is a post that will give you some good advice on the installation process that did not have the stainless embedded in the rubber. Do an Advanced Search of past posts to get more info on installations with the stainless.

Good luck, Mike

The trip to the junkyard was a success. I got the stainless trim. The window was broken, so it was easy to get the trim. It was removed from a '46-'48 chevrolet, so it is a little wider than '41.

Hi Sid,

How did your installation work out on the stainless install? Any hints on the best process for doing this? Maybe even a few pictures. I will PM you, but it is best to share your experience with all of us and future restorers.

Best wishes in the New Year,

Mike
