(51 Deluxe 2 dr., no ac) I had a leak on my control at the plunger, so I ordered a new one from Chevs of the 40's since it was under $30 and I wanted to avoid sending mine to be rebuilt. I have disassembled and reassembled 3 times but it still leaks when I slide the temperature knob up to get heat. I don't want to send mine out and have to wait several weeks, but I am ready to replace mine if there is one out there. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Just by-pass with a heater hose and remove the valve

Some of the older heavy trucks (Mack-volvo) etc use a cable controlled heater water valve. Might be worth checking out though it will not be original style.

Thanks for the replies- I will bypass and send mine out. Chev's of the 40's offers the service for a little more than $200.....

they sell new ones RANCO for 110 bucks and the kits for 13 bucks at least if you buy their rebuilt one they should guarantee them not to leak i took the nipples or what ever you call them out of the water pump ground down a couple of bolt till the heads fit snugly into the open unthreaded end then leaded them in and put all back together i have the stock look of the hoses but they dont function because the water is blocked from circulating it saved me the money of buying a valve and i didnt want to worry about water leaking down the fire wall and ruining all the work i had down i only drive the car when its nice out so i dont need a working heater
