Would someone please tell me how to identify a correct radiator for a 1963 Impala.

Bill,
IT depends on the engine, transmission and whether it has A/C or not. Lots of variations.

Verne, thank you for the reply. I'm looking for one for a 300-HP 327, powerglide and without air conditioning.

Isn't there a steel tag welded to the core frame with numbers punched into it?
The 1970 parts book lists about 6 different radiators for 1963 (there may have been more)
Mentions for some R-18, R-17, R-10,stamped on top tank and some mention the part number on an anchor plate?.
Example #3150018

Thanks, Gene. The car I have does not have the original radiator. I didn't know about the attached tag. That's the info I need during my search at Iola this year.

Bill, The part number for the radiator you need is 3153507. It should be stamped on the driver's side of the core. It has a low indentation in the center of the top tank and has 2 rows of 5/8" tubes.

I recall seeing these R numbers years ago and I am pretty sure they were painted on the tank with white paint

I guess I was not clear with my response, the painted/stenciled R number on the tank was in addition to numbers stamped on the side support. I never doubted Verne's answer, and as a matter of fact I agree with what he said. I am going back maybe 35 to 40 years ago, so the odds of the paint holding up all of this time would be rather slim
