I just had my radiator core on my 46 Fleetmaster replaced with a more efficient core and kept the top and bottom of the old one. The old one had a non pressure cap. Should I use a pressure cap on the new one?

The 1948 was the first year to use a 4 pound pressure cap. The 1948 Engineering Manual says the neck was revised so a pressure cap could be used.
You could try one and see if it holds pressure tested by the hoses getting hard to squeeze when hot.
The 4 pounds will raise the boiling point to about 220 Deg at sea level.
