VCCA Home Forums TECHNICAL - 1945 AND NEWER 1949-1954 Fire Extinguisher Location?

I want to mount my extinguisher in my 1949 Fleetline but am not sure where the best location would be, where it would be easy to access but yet not sticking out like a sore thumb. Any thoughts or photos would be great! Thank's in advance!

I've got a small one fits nicely in the glove box

If it is THAT small I doubt it will do much good when needed but I suppose it is better than none at all.
I have seen some who mounted theirs on the floor against the back seat. easy to get at when needed but would be a little in the way for back seat passengers.

Having a fire surpressent on board these older cars is it really an issue?

It is if you have them in a car show and they require it.

i did not think so but a while back we were waiting in line to register at local car show and the corvett in front of us had a fuel leak on the engine and caught fire the owner had worked on this car for 5 years no fire extinguisher lucky we had one under the front seat my son quickly put it out did not even burn the wires not only that car would have burn but ours would have too as we could not move with all the cars in line and no place to move so it made a believer out of me hope this helps

After losing one car to an engine fire years ago, I always keep a fire extinguisher in my old cars. Its force of habit and its good piece of mind. (Like carrying a good spare on a road trip along with a Triple A Membership). I keep ours behind the front seat on the passenger side, so I can usually reach back there and grab it before exiting in an emergency. I move it for shows to the trunk, but its a good idea to have. Its also mandatory for entering a show field / passing field entrance check at VCCA meets.

Is it really as issue, meaning is it necessary?

If that is the question, would you want to begin from scratch, with your project ?

No, just the possibility of fuel or electrically related fires on any of these ole buggers.

I've always carried one just behind / under the driver's seat, in the open-ended box so it doesn't roll around.
