OK I have my shocks rebuilt, filled with jack oil and installed. I have a lot of resistance pushing the arm down but none coming back up. Is this normal? I have one that has no resistance up or down and figure the spring valve is bad. Have another to replace it with. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The shock absorber in 1932 are a single action shock absorber.
When the vehicle hits a bump in the road, the leaf springs absorbs the road shock, but the shock absorber then slows the bouncing back to the original position. So up on the lever should be easier than the down (return to original position) .
With out the shock absorber the vehicle would just keep bouncing up and down until all inertia is expended.

I got a better ride by doing this: Behind the axel outside the leaf springs, I installed 2 I-bolts under the existing nuts. One under the upper nut & one above the lower nut, these nuts hold the cradle for the axel. Now the treads are pointing towards the wheel. Slide a washer on then your shock ends loop over the treads add a washer & bolt it tight. Now with the rough streets it rides so much better. These shocks are about 6".
the I-bolt are about 1/2" thick with about 1 1/2" of treads.
You will really like the ride

I double checked the shocks (mentioned above) the top I-bolt goes through the frame and the bottom I-bolt is bolted under the leaf spring nut.
