Brad,
Sometimes the experts won't respond until someone who doesn't have a clue makes a guess and then they'll chime in with the correct procedure and/or answer.
Accordingly, here I go::
a. Grab the bottom of the seat and pull out. This will overcome the spring loaded keepers that are screwed to the back of the wooden support.
b. Do the same to the top of the seat. If it doesn't seem to cooperate then do the top first and then the bottom.
c. If neither of these suggestions work then get you a good crowbar and a large hammer and go to work on it with a vengeance. After all it's merely a 38. (If it were a 41, then i would never recommend this last method. You would at least have to don some white gloves first.
You're welcome. (Stand by the experts would be along any time now.)
Best,
Charlie
