Anyone know the significance of the date? April 6 1948, and what souvenir 23 refers to?

I'm guessing it was not for use in a car but on a desk or table. As far as the date and "23" just venturing a guess maybe this was a sample for a promotional item and the company put the date of issue and the "23" was a record keeping number. Or perhaps a dealer had a promotion going on and was giving away a number of items to attract business.

Wish I could help you with that, Ken... But it's not mine. Someone in a Facebook group was looking for info on it...

Was April 6, 1948, the 23rd anniversary of an event that occurred on April 6, 1925 ?

Brewster,

I , as many others, think it might've been intended to hold a cigar. Said cigar would likely melt the sucker though.

Another guess would be that it was given to buyers of new 47/48 Chevrolets.

The buyers could take this little promotional item home and used it to entertain the kiddies for hours on end with them guess its intended use. The dad would likely have forgotten what the dealer told him. Key here is 47/48. Agrin
