Hi.
I am in the process of restoring a 34 Master.

The engine was rebuilt by a local engine shop a while back.
When we started the engine after the rebiuld, there were some issues/problems (piston/cylinder/clearance related - I posted this here earlier).

I got help from my engine builder to adress theese issues, and today I was ready to try start the engine again.

Well, now I have a new sound/noise that I need help identifying...

Everytime I am stopping the engine, I get this strange noise after the engine has stopped .
I have taken the fan belt off for this video (just letting the engine run for 5-10 seconds - water not circulating), to make sure the noise is not related to the cooling system or generator.

It sounds like the noise is coming from the very front of the engine.

Here is a video where you can see the carnkshaft pulley, and hear the noise after the engine has stopped:

Any ideas...?

Thanks.

The noise is the slinger between the crankshaft gear and harmonic balancer/pulley still rotating. You need to push the harmonic balancer further toward the back. The slinger needs to be sandwiched between the gear and balancer.

There was a person here with this same problem a few weeks ago. He didnot have the balancer fully installed. After driving the balancer back he said the noise stopped.
When driving the balancer back do not strike on the outer rim.

How do I mount the balancer correctly and make sure it will not come loose again, I am not sure what you mean by "driving"? Do I just strike it with a hammer......(that sounds a bit rough)???

A hardwood block on the damper center when driving. I used a 3 lb. hammer as it does take some force to drive it on.

Not that I am aware of, however I believe the correct factory tool is designed to lock into the slots for the hand crank. It is used as a puller to remove the damper and can be used when locked into the hand crank grooves to install the damper. I have never seen the tool used and have always seen them driven on.

I use a large piece of pipe that is large enouigh to go around the crank attaachment.
Your balancer did not come loose. It was not fully installed in the first place.

If pounding the balancer make sure to snug bolts in the threaded holes to secure the balancer disc to the pulley. Otherwise you may distort the parts that hold the assembly together and render it nearly useless.
