I Drove my 55 in stop and go city traffic today. When I got home I raised the hood and found gas boiling in the glass bowl of the fuel filter. It was a warm day...upper 70's. Engine is stock 265 with 2 barrel. Only had the car 6 months. Is this normal? It's going to get a lot hotter around here.

It's normal if you are using that junk Ethanol gas. With Ethanol have the same problem with a couple of my cars as well.

It will also be the winter blend. When they change over to "summer gas" next month it will not be quite as bad.

I have found that with the "summer gas" in this area the issues with the garbage Ethanol are even worse in my vehicles.

I've chronicled the mess elsewhere on this site that "ethanol poisoning" has made with both the carb and intake valves in my '52 216. However, regarding the "boiling" issue, the Q-Jet on the Boss's '72 Cutlass, has been pretty bad -- especially with the heat-soak that occurs after driving for a period of time and then trying to restart after 20 or 30 minutes has passed. The area immediately around the air cleaner stinks of raw fuel -- it's worse when the cover is removed -- but there's not a drop of leaked fuel to be found, nor any staining from a dried leak. However, looking down past the throttle plates, the floor of the manifold is wet, and I'm lucky if there's still enough fuel in the bowl to get a short shot out of the accelerator pump.

Sounds like a carb/float bowl issue on the Qjet.
