Hello again - I'm hoping somebody can explain something about the optional oil canisters that were available for the '49 chevy truck. I'm told I have an original AC factory canister but it is not yet installed. The canister mounting brackets are permanently fixed to the canister but if I mount the canister to the intake manifold the oil inlet hole is facing directly towards the radiator. This seems wrong, shouldn't it be facing back towards the firewall or maybe directly out from the side? I know where the in/out hoses get mounted to the block - the canister inlet hose should be mounted to a point at the lower back of the engine block. You would think that the canister inlet hose would get mounted such that it would naturally route back towards the firewall. My canister seems to have the hole located in the wrong place. Do I have the wrong canister? Thanks for any feedback. 49 trucknut

You have a 1955 or later filter. The canister is the same as an earlier model EXCEPT its mounted on the rear part of the manifold and the line drops down from the front of the filter. Could be used in the front of manifold position with the proper length line and with it being routed in a safe area away from "hot" exhaust parts.
