When I took my '51 sedan apart the original floor mats (front and back) came out in pieces. Are there reproduction mats out there? Is the reproduction carpeting acceptable for VCCA judging? Thoughts about what I should do about floor covering?

Just about any darker gray ut pile carpet will pass for in the rear.
Ihave never seen anything close to the original rubber for the front.
The FS has a black front that is about as close as you are going to get.

Le baron Bonney, aka Hampton coach has the back and front for my 51, and everything else for the car at the low, low price of $4263 less the trunk area as my kit is on order. 6-8 week delivery time for the complete kit.
What the heck who needs food anyway!

And just think, there are people out there that think they can restore these cars and make money on them when they are done. They have to be a labor of love or you loose for sure.

My mat? It's an original mat, black rubber with a texture look and smooth 1 inch edges? And a different looking spot in the drivers foot print area. It has a brown jute back

It's rolled up and stored so I'm doing this all from memory

the black rubber mat i used i got years ago from obsolete chevy it is about the same as dad51 has described i also had same design rear rubber mat bought from same vendor was going to use that but found out from gene carpet was used in rear tried 2 different looks put in dark grey in rear and it looked terrible when butted up to black rubber front mat then i went with black carpet in rear looks much better it may not be right for judging but sure looks a lot better than the grey i tried to use.

So the back carpet material goes under the entire front seat and butts up to the front mat?

The is an about one foot + gap between the rubber front mat and the rear carpet. There are filler strips attached to the carpet that go along the sides of the seat. There is black heavy tar paper type insulation glued to te floor under the seat.

The original carpet in the back seat area of my 1951 Chevy was "salt & pepper".

Wow, so that's the material that L-B/Hampton Coach is using now for the carpets? When I got my kit for the '52 Fleetline from Hampton back in 1985, they were still using the gray carpet material with flecks of charcoal or black just like the original. I wonder why they stopped?

BTW, I almost had a stroke when I saw what they're now getting for that kit! Yeah, I know inflation is the biggest factor, but my complete kit was a little over $1,200 which included everything from below the firewall pad to the trunk lining, and re-covering the sun visors. I had that kit stashed away in a dry closet for about 12 years before I actually had the need for it, but all things considered, I'm glad I got that kit and did all of the plating well ahead of time! Otherwise, with the way prices went (especially on chrome plating!), I'd still be driving around with no bumpers or grille, and sitting on a pillow on top of the bare seat frame and springs!
