I am just beginning to drive my car around the field next to my shop. It has not been driven since 1969. With the window down I can hear a swish of air that comes from underneath the car and I think it is the Vaccum shift.
My questions:
Is it normal or is it a leak that I need to fix?

I heard the same sound from my 48, so I believe it is normal. It's the sound of air entering the air inlet tube to the vacuum cylinder. The end of the hose is mounted on the inside of the frame in line with the driver's door. There should be a small mesh air cleaner attached to the end of the hose. The air cleaner should be cleaned periodically and the vacuum cylinder should be lubricated as well.

The vacuum system is described in Section 7 of the Shop Manual.
