Anybody ever seen a '62 409", 425hp, car motor, with the alternator option, that had a dual fan belt pulley on it, rather than a single belt set up like a generator? Bob

Back in the early 70s I work with a guy that had a 62 old highway patrol car that had an alt. Was 327 and not sure about the double pulley.

Yes I have one of those early alternators, and I may have the mounting bracket too.

Well, the reason I was asking, about 2yrs ago. I bought a '62, 409" Impala, and it has an alternator on it, rather than a generator, which was shown as an option in '62, but this was the first time I had seen the double-groove pulley used on an
alternator? You can buy them on the web, but I have never seen another set-up like it on an actual car. Bob

the stamped date code on the alternator may help confirming it could be original to your 409. mike

'62 Was the first year Chevy offered the Delcotron (alternator). It came std on A/C equipped cars and was optional on other small blocks, but never on a 409.

I saw either a original or clone 64 Chev highway patrol car in Late Great Chevys years ago and I think it had one of those large squirrel cage alternators on a 340/409 engine ?

It may have been the "added" Leece Neville alternator, to run all the electrical cop equipment.

Items added by a police car outfitting company weren't necessarily available from Chevy on the assembly line.
