I think that wire wheels could be had on the 1929 Chevrolets. They were different in size and design from the 1930-1931 and I am sure very rare today. Does anyone have a picture of the hubcap that was used with this wheel?

Wire wheels for 1929 were genuine Chevrolet accessory items and they are fairly scarce today. The wire wheels resembled the Model A Ford wheels in appearance. When the accessory 1929 Chevrolet wire wheels are found they bring big bucks!

I know of a fellow that has a couple sets of new old stock 1929 accessory wire wheel hub caps. They are worth as much, if not more, than the 1929 accessory wire wheels.

Dog, can you describe what those hubcaps look like? I have found an odd Chevrolet hubcap which I can't identify. I think that it might be for the 29 wire wheels. It is constructed like the 30-31 hubcaps only smaller with a skin over a steel base and it snaps into place. The other possibility is that it is a crank hole cover although I have not seen any of those with the bowtie on them.

No, it doesn't sound like a crankhole cover. It has been years since I have seen the hubcap for the 1929 wire wheels, but the hub cap is small, like the hub cap for the Model A wheels, and it has the Chevrolet Bowtie on the face.

Can you post a photo of the hubcap that you have?

The hubcap that I have is not here yet. It is in the mail. I probably should have waited until I have in my hand to start asking questions.

Yep.....wait until the hubcap arrives and then we can take it from there. When you receive the hubcap please post a photo of it if you can.

Here are some pictures the hubcap that I recently bought. I am wondering if this for a 1929 with wire wheels. It's about 3 3/4" diameter. It's pretty rough but if it is for the 1929 wire wheel then it is rare as hens teeth.

Back to the top. I am hoping that someone can tell me if this cap is for a 1929 wire wheel.

There is a picture of the 1929 wire wheels and cap in the may 1929 service new. It show a cap with a single solid border around the centre bowtie, where the one pictured here has a double border. My picture saved on my computer of some caps also show a single board. Maybe you need to provide a measurement for comparision with someone who has one.

???

The photo above, as I see it, has a single solid border going around the circumference of the cap and the cap in the photo above matches the 1929 wire wheel hubcap that is shown in the May issue of the 1929 Chevrolet Service News.

Thanks guys. It's a rare piece for sure and it will go into the cabinet with all the other early Chevrolet stuff.

The cap shown above , has the blue bowtie, and then the boarder. Looking carefully at the boarder, i saw brass, silver, brass, which looked like a thin boarder with a recess. Now Looking at it again, i can see that it is severly dented in, making it look like two boarders with a recess between !!!

Correct. As you have discovered the cap featured in the photo only has one border and not two.
