I finally found a 1948 Chevrolet Coupe from New Mexico, she's solid as a rock but needs a total resto. All wiring, interior and rubber have turned back to carbon because of the heat. Its has sliding rear quarter windows, and looks like it never had a back seat? would that make it a businessmans coupe? All original paint (whats left of it LOL :)) Looks like it was parked about 40 years ago due to a broken rear diff. I would post some pictures but I find it very difficult to do that here :(.

The Stylemaster coupe came as a business coupe (gas filler ahead of right rear fender) or club coupe with back seat and filler top of fender to the rear. Neither had a sliding quarter window. The Fleetmaster came only as a club coupe with rear seat and had a sliding quarter window.

It must be a Fleetmaster then , all the seats are missing so I am only guessing whether it had a back seat or not ( I guess it did ) , the fuel filler is in the back fender. thanks for the info, :)

Because the filler is ahead of the fender for a business coupe, the gas tank is under where the back seat would normally be. On the 5 passenger coupe the gas tank is under the trunk behind the rear end.

The business coupe gas tank is mounted inside of the cabin. Sits on top of the floor behind the front seat. There is a wood platform on top of it. I doubt if that arrangement would be allowed today. On a business coupe the trunk floor was lower due to the absense of the rear tank. The cars all had a 16 gal(US) tank.

I have paint number names for 1948 Canadian built GM cars. They all begin with an 8. 804 was called Wedgewood Green. Numbers ranged from 800-821. I am guessing the 704 number is from a 1947.
