A member called me with a question. He was wondering what the correct side for the gas filler was for his 1948. He saw the picture mentioned above and questioned the 1948 with the filler on the left side. Does any one have the answer? I do.

Hmmm. Not a clue!! As I was studying the photo, I did notice that it has a '47 hood emblem on it. Was it an overseas model??

Can't find my November issue to look at the subject car. Tried to find it here on chatter but failed. Bill Barker, what is an easy way to access the November issue. I tried, but owing to my computer ineptness, couldn't come up with the right way to do it. Thanks, Charlie

Sporting the incorrect hood emblem most likely would pose more imperfection with the car pictured...It would be interesting to see more pics of the car...

My thoughts were wrong. I was going to say it had Olds rear fenders, which are wider (deeper) to allow the fat tires and wheels and skirts to fit. The "other" GM cars all had the gas filler on the left side. The additional pictures helped.

I think after looking at the interior I would take a little exception to their description of the car having a "high quality frame off restoration". And of course their crazy high estimated price.

Car is 12-volt with alternator, you can see 12-volt battery, what is with the bends in the gas line from pump to carb?, none of the woodgraining looks correct, ect.

CC, It appears that the 47?48 Fleetliners are having a feeding frenzy on this here poor ol' 48. Talk about turning on your own! Mercy! I still haven't seen a post explaining the wrong-side gas cap. I think the access to the gasoline tank has been modified to accept the nozzle from another point (trunk?) and the cap was just stuck to the wrong side by mistake. Maybe the car is a British model and the photos are merely reversed. Who knows? The biggest flaw with the car is the stinkin Fulton. I'm sure that all who have seen the photo will agree. It's like doing a frame-off, complete restoration and then adding a trophy from a Longhorn steer to the hood. Only works in TX. Charlie

Not the case Charlie, Most of us Fleetliners Take correct preservation very seriously ,as is not the case with the fleetline in question...And sorry I do not agree with you about the Fulton visor, it matches the lines of the Aerosedan very well

I think the builder/owner of this great looking Fleetline just wanted to be a little different. The gas filler was probably moved just to make people wonder. I think the wood grain is a nice departure from the original and sets the car apart from other Fleetlines. Maybe the owner likes the looks of the '47 hood emblem over the '48. I applaud the owner for making this Fleetline "his" and setting it apart from others and making it 1 of 1.

"Most of us Fleetliners Take correct preservation very seriously " CC, You must be a-kiddin me. If so, what is it with all that wood gracing the sides of some of them? Yours too. As to this, I, too, think preservation and no deaviations. Then I remembered I have the "shark teeth"rims on my coupe. Oh, well! Now as to the Fulton,,, Let me just say that I cannot understand why anyone with an ounce of class would slap one of those sucker on a perfectly beautiful car. It is unconscienciable. (I think that means that one has to be unconscious to do it.) As to matching lines of anything, the only thing it even comes close to matching is a Yugo. Its like putting burlap sack on a debutante or the reverse of putting a tuxedo on a monkey. NOT THAT THERES ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Mercy! Charlie

Please Charles.....We are still discussing G&D article that says the CC trim package was factory approved and to date it has no point deduction...Of course that might change? Mine is a NOS kit and proud owner of it..The car sports a senior oval, this sends a statement that many judges approve it being correct for the 47-48 Chevy's comments???
