I received a phone message from a member who gave me a serial number for his '31 5 window coupe and asked what month it was built.

I am not sure if it is the car serial number or the engine serial number.

I have called him back and in turn he called me and I called him back again.

It is 7 digits with no letters. Is there a way to figure out what month it was built or do I need to get the engine casting info?

Thanks

Jim M.

Jim M.

Your phone call seems to be from the same person I talked to today. The number he gave me on the phone (couldn't write it down) was a seven digit engine serial number. He told me he would receive the car in a couple of weeks. I told him that the number was the engine serial number and where to find the other numbers when he receives the car.

Yep, that was definitely the engine serial number and not the car serial number.

If you can post the engine serial number I can probably identify in which month the engine serial number was issued.

From what I can remember the number as 22xxxxx which would put the engine assembly date in the mid December 1930 to mid January 1931 time frame.

I highly suspected it was the same guy. Guess my memory wasn't as good as it could have been.

From the engine serial number listed above, it appears that the serial number was issued in late March or early April of 1931.

Why don't you just tell him to go read this page?
