I'm about to sand blast my frame and am planning on painting the frame.

Trying to decide on a paint but am heavily leaning toward Rustolem. I know there are higher tech paints out there (Por/2K) but it seems that if a standard oil base paint was good enough in 36 I'm thinking a good coat of primer and Rustolem would be in the ballpark of original?? Looking to build a solid driver not a show stopper.

Kinda like the ease of clean up and straight forwardness of an oil base paint

Also thinking of it as an underbody / trunk / anywhere that's hidden coating.

Thoughts anyone ???

It's all a matter of preference......whatever works good for you. However, I won't allow Rustolem or POR in my shop.

I powder coated the last one I did. For what they charged to sand blast & powder I couldn't buy a good quality paint. Powder coating cleans so easy. It's not a show car either but it durable. Just my opinion....Joe

Why not Rustolem, Junk?
I understand no Por but Rustolem is just an oil based paint like most of the rest. Have you had a bad experience with it? What would you suggest?
Thanks

Rustolem does not have the quality that I prefer. Every time that I have used it I had issues. As compared to other brands I found that Rustolem was inferior.

On my frame I used PPG enamel with the catalyst and it worked great and it had the quality of finish that I wanted. If I were to paint a frame again I would do as Joe suggested and get it powder coated.

I am not the "show room" type eather. I used Fixall which has now became Valspar a cheap but good local oil based paint made in Tennessee. It has been on the bottom of my '36 truck since 1968 and I repainted with the same paint in 2005. Go figure.

I used John Deere blitz black ( just right satin ) on my 47 and 72, it has been over 25 years and still looks good. I used POR 15 on my 41 but did not take the body off, it's a summer daily driver. Still cleans up good after 17 years.
