I have purchased new side glass and want advise on removing the old glass from its sash channel. Do I soak the area in old transmission fluid to get the glass setting rubber material to soften, or is there another suggestion like using old gas to soften up the rubber?

Thanks, Mike

I'm looking forward to this step with my '46 half ton project, likely in the next few months. The thought occurs to me that maybe heat from a heat gun might soften the rubber???

My glass shop puts lighter fluid all along the metal portion, lights it and after the flames are all done, he pulls it out.

I used brake cleaner from a spray can. It came out really easily after a minute or two.

I just gently pried them off with a thin screw driver. The setting tape is old and shouldn't be hard to separate from the frame. Just take your time and pry with even pressure.

When I did mine, I used a safety razor laid flat on the glass and kept slicing the sharp edge into the channel to break up the mastic and assist the solvent in penetrating
