I started on this engine in Oct. I've taken it all apart and taken many pictures. I have the block, head, and crank, at a local machine shop with a friend that's worked on a few of my engines in the past, but none this old. It would be nice to have a second opinion on curtain things. Today I'm working on the oil pump, an Elgin vane style it looks ok to me but the suction screen has holes in it. Looking for a new one I noticed there are more of the oval styles than this round one. Will they both work on this Elgin oil pump? Another thought is should I be going to a newer gear style pump?
I also started to clean up the rocker arms and found the rear one to be cracked in the middle, at the middle bolt. My thought is to order a new set of rocker arms and bushing from the filling Station.

My 1939 parts book lists two different screens for 1932 (genuine Chevroler that is)
The oil intake pipe on the early was 1/8" and late was 1/4".
I have the round screens (new) for the later. Chev. part #837203. Book list size as 2 3/4" OD.
The vane type pump is fine if it is in good condition. There again, if it is not genuine, Chevrolet replacement parts may not fit.

This one has the 1/4" thread on the end of a 2" of hex head.
2-3/4" od x 1-7/8" tall.
I did find a screen with that part number on eBay for $8.00.
but haven't purchased it. Is yours for sale?

Did you mean that the rocker arm shaft is cracked, or the pedestal which supports it, or a rocker arm itself? If it's the rocker arm shaft, buying a new set of two shafts and 12 bushings is the right fix. Normally, one would do that on a rebuild anyway. If it's the pedestal or one of the rocker arms, lots of guys on this site can help with replacements -- just post what you need in the "Parts Wanted" section.

Good luck with your project!

All the Best, Chip
