I received my January G & D today. Much to my surprise I found the same article and pictures of a '32 Special Sedan as was in the Sept. Oct. Antique Auto Magazine.

Looks like it was taken at a different angle but still at the same location.

This is speculation but I'd wager that the owner submitted their restoration to both. It's likely just happenstance that both were accepted and printed so close together. I doubt that the G&D staff peruse other club magazines to make sure our stories are unique anyway. FWIW it doesn't bother me that it may have run in more than one magazine.

Good that your articles stayed with G & D, instead of getting to the pages of Playboy, a different form of bodywork.

A friend of mine purchased a mint 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air.
The vehicle had and still has 4,000 miles on the speedo.
It was driven 4,000 miles by the wife of the owner of the agency.
It then became a "fixture", within the showroom, from 1951 to 2000, when the dealership owner retired and closed the facility.
My friend has had this vehicle since 2000, on display, within his moderately sized museum. It does not get driven, just sits there and looks nice.
Point is, even though this 1950 sat on the dealership floor, locked, wear did show on the painted body surfaces, from being rubbed by the general public and polished by the porters.
The engine bay has all its original whatevers, but the gray paint on the valve cover and block was lifting and is lifting in areas, for that engine paint was 49 years old, when my friend purchased the vehicle. Paint on the radiator tank is loose, as well.
In the January G & D, you'll read the article on the beautiful 1932 Confederate, stating to be original.
I look at the engine in the Confederate, it appears to have been installed yesterday, just a perfect looking engine.
Does "original' indicate the engine has never been out of the vehicle, but could be painted, or does "original" indicate no rebuild and no cosmetic work has been performed.
Engine looks great, but seems too great for 1932.

The valve cover at least was repainted on the '32 as the original paint never had that much gloss. saw that '32 at the 10th Anniversary Meet at the Indy race track in 1971. Don't recall the engine but the exterior was as new. From the picture of the car in the Oct. 1971 G&D it didn't have the wheel hub protectors at that time.....and did have white walls. It seems every well preserved car gets some warts after a while.

The Ryan '32 has had some paint touch-up and even some larger repairs. Several accessories were added by the Ryans and maybe by later owners. Despite that the car is a time capsule and an excellent example of a preserved '32 Chevy.

At the 15th Anniversary Meet the car had Cream wheels, no Hub Protectors or Spoke Covers.

The comments here make sense, a better fit for the pics shown in the G & D.
Still, a beauty of a car.

At the 15th Anniversary Meet the car had Cream wheels When I saw Elmer's 1932 at Harrah's Reno Swap Meet back in the mid-1970's it had Karnak Green wheels just like it does now. The snap spokes and the hub protectors were added by a later owner of the car.

I do wish the 32 had not been featured along with the 41 in the Jan G&D. It takes away from the 41 some of the awe that would otherwise been generated for it. Well, I should be thankful that the 41 even made it in. I know it must have been a gut wrenching decision to put that fine automobile in the G&D. I submit that the 32 is a mighty fine automobile but the 41 albeit 9 years younger is probably more original. Bob. As original is not the same as original. But it is used to designate that the car has the stuff that an original on would have on it and has not been modified as in hotrod, street rodded, customer, etc. Well, that's my take on it anyway. I don't intend to start any stream of posts clearing this term "original" up. It has been discussed extensively and nothing has ever been settled. Also, Bob, I noted your disrespectful note about the delivery of your mail here in good ol' North Carolina. You may take note that some of us down east have began pulling out our bed linens and dusting them off and seeing if they need mending or washing. Not to worry yet. We're merely getting ready just in case you may need some incentive to move on to a suitable state. Just kidding. Sort of. Charlie
