How about a guess, if it was a buick it would be for the radio antenna. Fisher body had common parts between lines.

I thought of the Buick antenna also but Buick did not use the A body after WWII. In looking at picturres in the 1946-1947 Fisher Body Manual all bodies, A, B and C all have the hole so it must be a throw-back to the 1941-1942 A body used by Buick.

None of the GM cars ever offered a light at that location.
Now that I see a good picture of the hole it is for the Buick antenna. Buickk had a big knob inside of the car so the antenna could be rotated from resting down on the center windshield divider to the up position .

I think it is for the rear view mirror. It looks like my 47.

Correct Gene. The mirror mounts on the divider strip.

I vote for the Buick antenna. As always, GM stamped 'em all the same to save money.

Your 48 looks exactly like my 48 two door Fleetmaster. Ken--What I need to know is how is the adjustment made on the entire sun visors, I recently had them completely rebuilt but they continue to sag to the middle

n2....as I recall the shaft that goes through the triangular mounting piece is spring loaded to keep friction on that adjustment. I don't know if there is any adjustment to that spring tension. Maybe a screw that holds the spring?

Maybe one of our other experts will chime in here. Ruscar, Chef, Johnny....we need a little help here.

When putting sun visor back together, are the 2 "V" shaped bars installed in the forward and rearward portions of the visor?? These are marked and held in place by small sheet metal screws screwed through the visor and into the bars to help hold the visor in plane. There are various holes in these bars to compensate for the overall width you need to match the cars width of "A" pillars. Also, the bars are made to only work in either the front or rear. They cannot be swapped front to back and still work properly. When installing the visor, there should be 2 braces running from the middle of visor to the division bar of windshield. This also helps hold the visor in correct plane. One at front of visor and shorter one at rear. These braces are adjustable. Hope this helps somewhat.

Jim.

Hey Jim....we'll have to wait for n2chev to come back and tell us whether he meant interior or exterior sun visor.

One of us read his post wrong.....I was thinking interior visors, sounds like you were thinking exterior!!

You be right Ken. I read it as saying sagging in middle so just assumed he meant exterior. Dunno. As you say, will have to wait and see what he says. Thanks for the note to me.

Thanks for the kind offer Chef. I assume you meant it for D2 though as it was his question. Still waiting to see if he was talking about interior or exterior visor.

Merry Xmas to you and yours and keep the Fleetliner clean and beautiful!!!
