Two questions: What is the secret if any in relatively easily reinstalling a universal joint? I bought a snap-on universal installer but discovered when you slip it behind the capture plate and attach nuts, you are not able to remove due to close clearances. I noted a picture of the chev tool that attaches to the shift lever in the manual but doubt these are still available. Can get it in with the help of a neighbor, but would think there is a trick to all of this.
Second question: I note the Filling Station is selling chrome trim rings for my car. Were they original accessories and are they worth the investment from an aesthetic standpoint. I have white-wall tires. Jim

Chevrolet had a special tool to hold the ujoint when assembling and is illustrated in the repair manual. The literature I have for 32 accessories shows "hub protectors" but not outer trim rings, but I can not confirm that they were not available. As far as being "worth the investment" I think that's an individual decision.

Regarding the u joint tool, I made my own. Simple piece of steel bent into a shape that works. While holding the tool behind the u joint to keep it forward, I put one or two nuts on with my other hand. Still an operation in dexterity, but easier with the tool. Were they original accessories The trim rings ("wheel mouldings") are a genuine Chevrolet accessory for 1933 and a retro-fit for 1932.

I have a set on my '32 sport coupe.My wheels are powder coated black w/black body & fenders.They really look great.Ads a pinch more class to an already fine automobile.

Trim ring were still not available as of March 1st 1932 in the combined six cylinder parts book, Only Hub protectors and snap on spokes are listed at this stage.
