I have low voltage lamps on a heavy 8" x 8" wooden fence rail.

The lamps are powered by # 1141 12 volt bulbs. Being outside, the bulbs are binding/seizing in the sockets. Tough to swap out, when they burn out.

Is there anything I can put on the bulbs, to prevent the bulbs from seizing within ?

Marine wheel bearing grease or lower unit lube. They are water resistant. If not solid they will not prevent the contacts to make a good connection.

I think they have a grease that is made for this problem. I can't think of name right now. Do a search on the internet might show something. Just remembered it is called a dielectric grease.

The major car parts places sell a "bulb lubricant" that is designed to do exactly what you're asking for. "Electralube" and "Bulb EZ" are two brands and there are several others. Don't know if it's any good, I've never tried it.

All the Best, Chip

Dielectric grease is an insulator so could be problematic if it's gotten on the contacts. You want a conductive grease.

If the grease is too viscous or hard or has fibers in it, then it might prevent good contact between the bulb and socket. The lower viscosity grease and oil will get pushed out of the way and make good water resistant contact. I routinely use grease on battery terminals to seal them from moisture and acid gas. Have also used it on bulbs that are exposed to the elements.
