I'm restoring a '31 Phaeton that came to me in boxes. I have two sets of brackets for the rear fender guards that came with the car. One set would produce a very wide spacing like the '29-'30 bars with the grooves in the faces. The other set would produce a much closer spacing -- nearly the same as the front bumper.

Would somebody please measure the gap between the rear fender guard bars on their '31 car (with the wider bars with plain faces -- no grooves) and let me know what the spacing should be?

Then I'll know which set of brackets actually goes with this car.

Thanks!

All the Best, Chip

Chip , I just measured mine for my 1931,
front bar , full length rear bars , and rear bumperettes all have 15/16 inch spacing between the face bars.

Chip,

I don't know if Phaeton and closed bodies have same frames but will give you what I have from my 31 Coupe.

Distance between rear bumpers is 32 1/2".
Distance c/l to c/l outer pins is 65".
Distance c/l to c/l of bolt holes is 11 1/2" from bolt where brace attaches to fuel tank apron to end pins on bumper.
Distance of brace is 6" c/l to c/l of bolt holes where mount to gas tank apron and where mounts to frame horn. That strap is 1 3/4" wide.
I have the double bar bumpers on rear of car, smooth face, and they are 1 5/8" wide.

Dunno know if this helps, if not disregard and sorry to have wasted your time.

Ditto my set-up. Thanks Jack. Looks like I misread Chips question.

Thanks Jim, but I think you misunderstood my question. What I'm asking is what is the vertical gap between the two bars. It's either about 1 inch or about two inches.....

All the Best, Chip

And thanks for taking the time to check. I appreciate it.
