I ordered a vent for the rear axle of my '31 Coach as suggested by the forum here. I was curious if it makes a difference which side of the car or how close to the diff/wheels I mount it?

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to work on the car at all in the last month or so. My wife's car burned on the interstate, everyone was OK, and found out that because the builder built our house incorrectly, the entire kitchen wall and part of the floor rotted out and I've had to rebuild that entire part of the house. Oh yeah, and the 2.5 year old and 5 month old don't let up either...haha.

Thanks

Hello Vetteman61,
Strength through adversity as they say, keep the faith. I would say about locating a breather for the rear end, to be inward of the axle seal locations and anywhere along the top of the housing that will give clearance regardless of suspension travel. I don't think that I would want to locate a breather right on top of the pumpkin though, for fear of rear end lube splashing directly into the inside of the vent/breather possibly blowing some fluid out and staining the outside and/or mixing with dust/dirt and plugging itself up over time. I think that some that have drilled a breather hole into the top cover bolt have mentioned a small drip of fluid from time to time. It's time to have some good luck for a change so, Good Luck.

My 51 has a factory installed vent one foot to the left of center on the top. I don't think the exact location is important as long as it's located where it does not get splash from the gears.

I placed mine on the top of the axle tube about 10 inches from the center diff. Out of the way.....
