"They didn't use brown because they had 1950 leftovers'
It appears I read the sentence incorrectly, based on Gene's actual meaning.
Brown was used, in 1951, as a continuation of the 1950 model mat color.
When brown was stopped, during the 1951 model run, black was then introduced.

That may have started sooner with my car as it is an "E" which would make it an April production.

I would guess that would have been one of the first Deluxe 1951's with with black.

Well........that's a tough one. Going back to 1960 when I first got the car, as I remember, the mats and trunk lining were black. Unfortuantely, that was all replaced several years later because the mats were in bad shape. In the front compartment I installed a new black floor mat from my local Chevrolet dealer and the trunk mat is aftermarket. On my 1951 parts car, (it was all original but had a rusted out body), the mats and trunk lining were brown.

My "L" 1951 (Dec of 1950) = brown.
My "G" 1951 ( July of 1951) = black.

I didn't think these rear bumper brackets would be an issue to put back on as I thought they would only go on one way but the bracket fits with the curve up and also down. Unfortunately I don't have pictures and The parts car brackets are missing. Any thoughts on which way the curve goes, up or curves down? Thanks

Curve goes down.. it's upside down in the picture. Just put mine on this week as well. I think we're still tied...

You may have some advantages... I have a one year old kid that gets more time than my other baby recently! I'm hoping to be done by July.

so was this bracket painted on the frame, or were the bolts that hold it to the frame "paint less"?

If that is a bumper mounting bracket the bumper brackets were gloss black and painted before installation. The bolts holding it to the frame were not painted.

Ok that wasn't fun Now the question is the center post between the split windows didn't suck up into the glass molding on the inside. It did fit and lock when I tried just the molding and no glass. The book says no sealant on the vertical part so I'll thinking it will snug up with the center post trim hardware? It's close but nothing that will stay if you pry the rubber lip over the end of the verticle divider.

Anybody got any thoughts or history about putting the doors on without all the mechanism and glass first because of dealing with the extra weight?
It may be easier to install everything while the doors are flat on a bench?
I had planned on putting the gaskets on first for sure.
Thought So?

I would install all except the upholstery while the door is off.

dads51, If you have a means to support the door off the car and install the parts without scratching or denting the paint or metal then off the car might be best. However installing the door on the body provides a solid support (particularly vertically) to install the internal parts. Sorta six of one or half dozen of the other.

when i did my 50 coupe i put everything together(door on car ) when i finally got the door properly aligned to me it was easier to do standing up instead of bent over, also the door is not moving on you every time you try to put a part on. make sure you have plenty of help and very careful when you go to open doors with fender on it is very close to where the door spear meets the front fender i had to really work on that phase to make sure nothing hits when opening you will see what i mean

They look like the retainers that attach the accessort bumper rail that holds the rail to the top of the bumper guards.

Understand but does anyone know a part number that I could search by? Or have an extra set laying around?
I need them and may end up asking a set as I haven't seen them offered anywhere. Can't even remember where I saw this set online years ago?
