Hi Mike,
Many here are not VCCA members so we can't see the pic you posted. If you can attach the pic direst to this massage, we may be able to help.

Regards
Al

Sorry everyone. It seems I can not post a picture here for some reason. The headlight in question is pictured on the left side of this page under "VCCA Member Photos". The one with the brass-looking retainer ring. Not sure how long it will show there or why I can not move it here but I will keep trying. Thanks

Just like magic!!

Wish I could do that. All it gives me is 0 Bytes for a photo and almost all my photos are bigger than 0 Bytes.

But seriously GoldenWarrior, thank you for putting that up.

Thank you too, Bill!

Why can I not do that myself?

That's fine but to the question. I think about 1910. I can't see that it is Chevrolet unless it has a bowtie stamped on it somewhere.

Keep in mind that Chevrolet didn't use the bow tie until 1914.

The headlight in question,is from a late 1926 Model 30-D,or 1927 Model 30-E Oldsmobile.

Did Brass get used that late? My recollection from explanations offered by others is that brass use was curtailed soon after the start of WW I?. Don't know either way and I'm as curious as the PO.

The clamping band that you see that appears to be brass(maybe just the light the picture was taken in),is actually chrome plated brass. It holds the black painted steel lens retaining rim to the body of the headlight.

From the pictures I saw of the 1926 - 27 Oldsmobile sure look like these that I have. Thank you all so much, especially CJP'S 29. The brass rings on the lights do not show a hint of ever being chromed but I'm sure you are right and they were at some point in their early lives.

Thanks again everyone.
