Have finally decided to attack chronic oil leak coming from rear of engine. Questions: is there a torque recommendation for the rear main, and where might I find some "keeper plates" that lock the main bolts by bending up the tabs. Jim

Torque to about 85 foot pounds. No figures were given back then.

Bolt locks are scarce so try to save yours. They switched to lock washers in the later years and they work well slso.

I have one source that indicates that the main bearing caps should be torqued to 100 pounds. I would relax on the torque though to between 75 pounds and 85 pounds.

If you prefer to stick with using the keepers with bend-over tabs, they are pretty easy to fabricate from sheet metal.

Good luck with your project!
