I do not believe the original fittings in '31 & '32 had the Hex on them. I do not profess to be an expert but I base this on when I purchased our original'31 in 1960 it had all the fittings in place and none of them had the Hex on them. All the parts I got out of Junkyards had fittings without the Hex. They were all nickle plated.
You could always cut the hex off and run a 1/8 -27 thread on them.
Just something to think about.
