Another problem with this 55 show car I just bought is the brakes. The pedal has lots of free travel before engaging. I thought I'd solved it when I filled up the master cylinder, and when I adjusted the brakes, and when I bled the brakes. But the pedal still has too much free play. Is there an adjustment to the pedal itself? I bought a new Malibu in '72 that had the same problem. The dealer argued with me that it was normal, but when I insisted they fixed it. Unfortunately, I don't know what they did. Any thoughts? Sid

Is there an adjustment to the pedal itself? What does your shop manual indicate?

How many notches did you back off the adjusters? I adjust (tighten) the brakes to the point where it is difficult to turn the wheel (this centers the shoes) then I back off till you just hear and not feel the drag.

as i recall, the push rod between the brake pedal and the master cylinder is adjustable and if so, simply lengthen it. mike

The Dog was right. Its covered in the manual. I didn't think it would be there, so I didn't look earlier. As Mike indicated there is an adjustment on the rod to the master cylinder. Unfortunately, it's adjusted to the maximum length. so I'll find a longer rod, lengthen this one, or make a longer "U" connector (the piece from the brake pedal assembly that attaches to the rod). I'll also re-check the brake adjustment. Thanks guys, Sid
