The rear-end housing has two numbers cast into it, one on each half of the housing. They are 276661, with a C directly under it and 276662, with a D directly under it. There are 8 lug bolts in the wood spoke rims with 35 x 5 (8 ply) tires . There are 12 leafs in the leaf-springs on both sides.

All this sounds, and looks, like a huge rear-end for this truck. The rear of the truck is extremely high off the ground, especially compared to the front.

Any ideas as to what this rear-end is out of, or is it actually the right one for the '28 light delivery?

The rear end you've described is out of a 1 ton truck. The 1928 1/2 ton light delivery rear end is exactly the same as any 1928 passenger car, except perhaps for the gear ratio.

I just counted 12 springs on this 28 1-Ton also. The photo is not the best but that is a 27 car behind it and this truck sits WAY higher than the car when they are nose to nose.

Thanks guys, a bunch!

If anyone knows of a '28 rear-end that will work in this truck we would be very interested in buying it.
