We have, now HAD, a beauty of a 2007 Chevy TrailBlazer.

While on a road trip yesterday, from NC to Cleveland, Ohio, we had a collision with a deer, on the Interstate, just after dark.

Deer ran into drivers side of car, damaged entire drivers side of vehicle. Never saw the deer, just felt the impact of the collision.

Don't know what I could have done to avoid the accident, just thankful we were not injured.

The TrailBlazer, while still driveable, is now a mess.

Glad to hear you're OK, and it wasn't the 51 Chevy! No better time to buy a tow vehicle than now!

I am grateful no humans were injured in the accident. Despite hunting with an assortment of weapons, the only deer I killed was with a '63 Chevy Wagon. Luckily didn't do too much damage to the car so was able to make quick repairs so it looked nearly 100%

Thanks to all for the kind words. Scared the heck out of us !

'07 TrailBlazer was a pristine one owner vehicle.

Paint is the "Red Jeweltone", which is an optional cost "pearl" color.

Matching that will be my concern ...... along with finding a quality body shop in our new town.

My daughter has been ill over the past few years years, is now thankfully in remission.

This trip is for a surprise 50th birthday party for her ..... we wanted to be here for this event, for certain !

The deer was not invited, however.

Glad to hear you and your family are ok. Scary thing those deer. We also have lots of moose to contend with up here in da "North Woods." It's good you can show some humor when life serves up lemons.

All the best,

Rick

Glad to hear you're okay! I hit a deer last month - well, really he was standing in the middle of the road, at night, just over the crest of a hill - and totaled my wife's 2005 Volvo XC-70. Really wasn't much of a collision, but did over $7,000 in damage to the front end. However (!) - it was a great excuse to get something else, so now she has a GMC Acadia. :-)

As others have already said, glad to hear you're all right. Here in PA deer are a real menace to motorists. Anyone who lives in Pennsylvania for any length of time has, or eventually will, hit a deer. In the nine years Cindy and I have been married we've hit four, all at night when they suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Regularly seeing dead deer at the roadside is part of the landscape. I have a motorcycle and enjoy riding but deer scare the heck out of me generally and at night specifically..I never ride my bike after dark.

As an aside: I quit hunting years ago. Simply lost interest and developed other hobbies. But back when I still hunted I bagged a 450lb black bear....with a Chevy, the first brand-new car I ever owned, a 1978 Nova. Did a lot of damage, I wasn't hurt and because the car was brand new it was repaired.

Take care and watch out for those deer,

Tom

I have had 1 encounter with a deer in daylight, hit the deer with front bumper bar then all the way under and not damage to the truck but the deer didnt survive (couldnt get enough meat for a meal worse luck). The same truck also had 13 kangaroo encounters with 11 kills and only 2 damage.

All the best,

After this encounter with the deer, I CANNOT imagine getting into a collision with a moose! Thanks, Rick.

You know, Dale, Brewster made mention of swapping for another tow vehicle, after this deer incident ........

In another thread, I was speaking of towing to Tahoe, with the TrailBlazer, got many comments as to why not, even though I think it would work.

Perhaps now is the time to rethink the tow vehicle for Tahoe.

It was pitch black on the highway, never saw a SLIVER of the deer, just the BIG BOOM, sounding like a huge wreck.

The impact immediately sent me towards the guard rail (I was in the right lane on the Interstate), took my foot off the gas, which helped recenter the T.B. into the lane again, instead of the shoulder and/or guard rail.

Moose, kangaroo, bear ..... makes the deer sound like the baby of the bunch. The deer was enough for my "ole heart", that's for certain.

Kangaroo and the deer here are much the same size only different weight distribution. The average roo stands about 5' to 5'6" with low bulk unless at full speed but they have been known to totally wreck a car.
The wombat over here are a lot worse in that they closely resemble a brick wall on feet (and move slightly faster) about the size of a half grown pig.

Interesting info ..... today I begin my ride back to N.C., from Cleveland, Ohio.

You can bet my eyes will be glued on the road, and you can bet I'll be off the road before sunset. dance

Yes, we were in Mentor, Chardon, Mayfield and Kirtland.

Glad to hear good news about your daughter and the fact that deer didn't injure you and the missus.

The only deer I ever hit was with my 76 GMC half-ton. Just singed it with the tip of the right hand side front bumper. Looked in my rear view mirror and it was scrambling around on the ground. Stopped and went to the back of the truck to have a look. Deer were gone. There were three of them in a pack. Small ones, at that.

The post about deer in PA is right on. When I was in PA for Carlisle and Hershey i noted deer every few miles on the side of Interstate 81. Must be a bunch of them up there. I note the high number of road-sides kills up there every year. Seems more there than any other state I go through. I guess road-kill, especially deer, is more of a delicacy in other states than PA. I think road-kill in VA is readily scooped up and taken home by the locals. Yum, yum. Agrin

Go out and get yourself a new GMC 2500 duramax, duel cab. Enjoy. The Lord was just a helping you when he sent the deer. Well, that's the way I would look at it.
