The body and engine numbers on the car that I am looking at now do not match.
The body number is 14JKA29716 which I found.
The engine number is JAD223I77. I cannot find the information on this engine. I suspect that it is a 216. I do know that it should be a 235 since the car is a powerglide.

I have checked several sites online and I cannot find that number. The JAD prefix just shows question marks.

A source for this information would be a great help. I know its out there. I just can't find it.

I would appreciate any help with this, Pete

Hi, Pete - These numbers work together fine. The car # 14JKA29716 says the car was built in Baltimore (14...) and is a 1951 Series 2100 (..JK..) "Passenger car, Deluxe, Styleline or Fleetline" and was built in January 1951 (...A). The 29716 is the sequential build number.

On the engine, JAD is a 1951 235" with Powerglide in a Passenger car.

I see where the Old Car Manual website shows JAD as ??? - but I have a page saved in my computer from an old Chilton's book (I think) which lists out ALL the various prefixes and suffixes, and it shows the JAD as specified above. I'll try to post a scan of the page, look in the left column, toward the bottom where 1951 entries start, the 6th entry under the 1951 codes.

The sequential body number and the sequential engine number would not necessarily match on a car in this era, like the more modern cars for "numbers matching." This combination you identified could well be born together, especially if the engine Casting Date is in January 1951. That Casting Number is probably hidden behind the starter.

J=1951
A=passenger car engne
D= with option 317 which was Power Glide.

14=asembled at the Baltimore plant
JK=1951 Deluxe
A=assembled in Jan.
29716=assembly sequence number.

1951 engine numbers ranged from 1001-1261301
The failry low engine number would be about right for a Jan. car.
The 216 engine has the push rod cover coming all the way up to th valve cover.
The 235 engine has the low push rod cover not even coming up to the head.
