I plan on being able to install the oil pan on my 216 this week. The pan has a steel tube that meets with a steel tube to supply oil to the piping in the pan. Does this require a gasket or sealant of any sorts or is it just a nice tight fit? Thanks...first one of these I've done and I'm not the one that took it apart.

Just a snug fit. When installing the pan the side corks get stuck to the block first (I use grease) and the end corks get installed last. In the modern gaskets sets they are too long and may need to be shortened first. Also taping them around a beer can for a day will put a curve in the end corks and make themm easier to install. Also I install 4 1/4" suds in the block to keep the gaskets in place and helps to guide the pan in place and the oil pipes to line up and join together.

Gene, Do you recommend a full beer can or an empty one? If empty, do you prefer one recently emptied or one that has been empty for a while? Just in case something goes wrong wouldn't it be good advice to empty a couple of extra cans so you would have a ready replacement? Just some random thoughts.

I would recommed a full can and it can be opened after the pan is in place....also makes it less difficult to crush.

Yes a full can just out of the cooler so the condensation and adhered water can help initially soften the cork, realign the lignin and stabilize the curve.

Hi Tony,
To answer your question the mating of the tubes does not require a gasket or any sealant. Have you aimed your dipper nozzles, and made sure non of them are plugged? Check out this old post found by doing a search of our posts using the terms +oil +pan with the Display Name Mike Buller. Sorry about the link my computer is smarter than I am and won't let me create a simpler link for you.
