Does anyone know the stock ride height for a 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster Coupe and Business Coupe (if different) as measured from the ground to the center of the fender lip, both front and rear? Would much appreciate this information.

Thanks

Welcome to Chevy Chatter.

Here's a link to 1948 Chevrolet specifications. Once it loads, scroll to page 15 and you will find exterior dimensions.

Thanks Ken48. Unfortunately that is the only spec sheet I have found also, but it doesn't provide ride-height specs to the center of the fender lip. It does give them to the roof line and over the hood ornament, but that won't solve my specific dilemma.

My car has stock 8-leaf rear springs (should have 7-leaf, but came from the factory with 8). It appears to sit much higher in the rear than stock (about 3+" of clearance above the rear tires). I want to order new springs, but have no idea if I order stock 7-leaf springs where the car will sit because I don't know if where it sits now is correct, but I suspect not.
It looks wrong, why, I don't know.

I was hoping that someone who owns a stock '48 Coupe might be willing to measure the ride height to the center of the rear fender lip and provide that info for me (along with the tire size they are running on the car) so I could compare.

Thanks for the lead anyway. Much appreciated.

I suggest you repost your question down in the 1946 - 1948 Forum. You will probably get more responses.

"My car has stock 8-leaf rear springs (should have 7-leaf, but came from the factory with 8)".

How did you determine that these 8 leaf springs were factory installed ?

Are they covered?
Actually the heavy duty springs would raise the car very little but would settle less with a load.
