In 1952 I had a 40 Chevy coupe,it had the steering wheel with the built in handle (I am sure it has a name) at the time I as a kid was ashamed of having such a different looking steering wheel, but now I like many others would give anything for one. I was wondering if this option started in 1940 and continued for ever how long,or it was available in 39 such as the car that I have?

The 1940 was the first "spinner" steering wheel. There was a revised version in 1941 and that was the end.
