Being with the VCCA for the past thirteen years I can not remember when there was a car show like the ones I read about every month in the G&D. If there are VCCA car shows in the state of Minnesota where are they and why is it I never see them advertised in the G&D? I have seen a lot of nice old Chevrolets at local car shows so I know getting them to a VCCA show would be a great adventure for all of us. What does it take to promote a VCCA show? Are there any VCCA local car clubs to to promote this? There is a Chevys best that has 55,56, and 57s, but that seems to be all in the Twin City area. Any comments from all you VCCA members out there? dupie

Hi Dupie, From your profile it is evident you are a member of the VCCA. Based upon your comments it would appear that you are a lone wolf and not a member of a region. Frankly, I don't know if there is a region near you or not, but it would appear from your comments there is not. Perhaps the action you can take is to consider forming a region with the people you know that have Chevrolets. It only takes 12 interested people who don't even have to own a Chevrolet, but have an interest in their preservation to form a region. I suggest you contact your area representative (look in the G&D for the name and location) and actively start something. Then, when you get it rolling, you can organize a meet such as you describe. All it takes is a lot of hard work, but what else is new. If it were easy it wouldn't be worth it. (Mr. Moderator, you may wish to move this string to General Discussion).

This is an excellent question! It goes right to the point that our Prez was making in the latest (February) G&D "President's Message." Every Area of the Country (there are 12) really should have an national sanctioned Meet each year. That would mean there would be a nationally sanctioned Meet within a reasonable distance of virtually every member in the U.S. at least once per year. These are (normally) the "good meets" being talked about here, where it's all Chevys, and they are normally all "nice" Chevys. This is where the guys bring out their recent restorations and go find out if they can get their First Junior, or compete for First Senior, etc. And this is where the genral members get a chance to see the cars, and meet their fellow members in the general area. I (with my Region members) organized and hosted one such meet about a year ago. It was scary, I had no idea what I was doing. But the Area I was in at that time (Area #9 Florida & the Southeast - I moved since) had never had a sanctioned Meet, and I thought we should. It was a blast! Sure, a lot of work - but I met a zillion new people, saw a zillion cars I had never seen before, and we all had a great deal of fun. Better yet, now there will be an annual Meet each year in Area 9, next one is in N.C. in May. This only happens if some Region (usually meaning some one person with the desire to get it started) in a given Area steps forward, and says "let's do this!". So, Dupie, go to your next Region meeting, and get the ball rolling!!!

Dupie, Call Roger James @ 763-682-3111. He's from Buffalo, Mn. He's also listed in the G&D on page 4. There meetings are "As announced". Would like to make one myself. Good Luck.
I think I'm a fairly wise person because I'm smart enough to realise I'm not too bright.

Thanks to all who took the time to reply to the post about Car Shows. I will contact Roger James. I look forward to the G&D each month being retired and living in Minnesota with long cool winters reading is some thing I do a lot of, as well as reading the VCCA web site.

Dupie, You are in area 4 which in conjunction with area 5 holds the MiddleWest Meet every year. The last one in MN was in Austin, MN in '99. Last year was Ft. Collins, CO. this year the 28th edition in Iowa City, IA. From what I understand, the notice will be in the next G&D. There have been a couple of postings in "National VCCA Meets and Events" forum on this site. That is not too far from MN. It is 1000 miles for us but we plan to attend.
You also have a very active Region, Viking Region, in MN. Roger and Mary James are two active members. Don't know two nicer people. You also have a National Board Member who lives int the Twin Cities area, Brooklyn Center. I hear that he has bow-tie shaped corpusles. Contact them and get involved you all will benefit.
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!
