Note: The room reservations for the Meet Hotel (MontBleu, South Shore Lake Tahoe) were opened on Sept 9th. By the end of the next afternoon, all 350 rooms were reserved.

On Sept 18th we managed to negotiate with the Hotel to release the remaining 25 rooms to us that they were holding back for their other guests. Without announcing this to ANYONE, all of these rooms were reserved by Wednesday the following week.

So, all rooms are currently reserved. People who want to stay there will have to call occasionally and seek a reservation that has been cancelled. Statistically, at least 5% of the rooms will be cancelled between now and next August.

During the week of Sept 14 we discussed with the Hotel about maintaining a list of pending reservations to be activated upon any cancellation. They told us that it is the hotel's policy NOT to engage in that sort of activity.

In the Jan and Fed issues of the G&D, there will be additional information about alternate hotels. Since MEET RESERVATIONS won't begin until Feb 1st, we felt that there was no rush to publish this additional information. The alternate hotels will easily accommodate all overflow reservations from people who want to attend our Anniversary Meet.

If you are NOT a VCCA member and want more information about the Meet, then please join the club immediately so that you can begin to receive the G&D as soon as possible. All information that people need to know will be published in that magazine. This has always been the plan. Occasionally you may find information posted here that clarifies or expands on the Meet preparations, but you need to seek the upcoming issues of the G&D and the Meet Registration Form in February for the complete story.

Welcome and we hope to see everyone at South Lake Tahoe in August.

What a fantastic view of Lake Tahoe! And the GREAT NEWS is that we will all have the opportunity to experience the exact same view ( only it will be maybe 70 degrees warmer ) when we all get to the 55th Anniversary Meet in August. The Heavenly Valley Ski Resort will get us to the top of the mountain on the day of our large car show and judging so that we can see this view in person. Bring your camera.

We're planning to go to the 2016 meet but can't find much information about what is going on or what to do for several days. The registration forms list a few venues that may be visited but nothing else. Is it expected that the member just try and amuse themselves for four or five days? I see the Virginia City tour and the auto museum tours, tram ride but is that it? Are any members driving around together or are we all on our own? One tour on Friday was all that I could find. If there's nothing to do why have a five-day "meet"?

Go to vcca.org/2016 and you can find out what is going on. The Meet web page is filled with more information about the 55th Anniversary Meet than you may want to read; a person could spend a couple of hours reading about all the activities and sidebars contained in the web page.

Enjoy your reading at vcca.org/2016

See you at Lake Tahoe in August

Thanks Dave. I've reviewed the meet information over and over and must be missing something, just a couple of "tours","swap meet", ladies luncheon, kids event, but nothing about driving activities. I don't care about judging, just driving my old Chevy and seeing the sights; there is very limited information on this site on in any of the past three issues of G&D. I can't spend five days wandering around some casino waiting for the one tour on Friday. Did I expect too much for this once in five year event?

carbana

Thursday is dedicated to a major TOUR to DIFFERENT locations around the Reno - Carson Valley area. Depart on Bus or by car between 8 - 9 am. Return around 4:30 pm.
carbana

Friday is the date of the TOUR around Lake Tahoe. A stop at SQUAW Valley is planned. Optional stops at Donner Pass are recommended.

That's three days of LONG touring. The tour booklet will have turn-by-turn directions.

We have folks already signed up to tour in 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder cars. And some folks are going to "leave the driving to us" and travel by bus. Same routes, just different experience.

Greencorn... When you are at these big meets you will find that there really is not all that much free time where nothing is going on. Besides all of the events, there is a 24 hour car show of people hanging out and comparing notes in the hotel lot, and lots of people socializing, and getting together to do "tourist" stuff on their own as well. You're going to meet a ton of new people, and will get plenty of "wheel time" over the course of the week. Have a look in the journal section at some of the write ups of the bigger events we've done...

All rooms that have been cancelled were transferred to other VCCA members. As of last weekend, we are back to ZERO and no open rooms remain. But I keep hearing of some other people who might still give up a room. Keep calling the hotel if you want to stay there. Also read the previous G&D articles and let the Meet Committee know that you'd like to be added to a "Need a Room" list.

If anyone is interested, I have a reservation at the RV Park and I will be cancelling the spot shortly. I have decided to take another car to the meet and will not use the MH. Contact me with a PM if interested.

I have a couple of MontBleu guest rooms that are available for transfer to VCCA members going to the Meet and want a guest room at the MontBleu. These rooms would be at the STVCCA6 special contract rate. Most of these rooms are for check in on Sunday August 7 and check out Saturday August 13, other with check out Friday August 12.

Please contact me via email at vccameet@gmail.com to get on the list for a transfer as they are available.

The 55th Anniversary Meet is shaping up well. We have approximately 410 Meet Registrations with over 850 people expected.

Side show display at the Tuesday Car Show.

To see something really odd and interesting, hook up with me at the car show. I'm bringing my 1925/1926 Franken Chevy 2 cylinder engine for show and tell. It will be parked next Justin, my '28 Canopy Express in the CDPC parking area.

Here is a thread with more information about this engine:
Frankie's story

Looking forward to seeing you in South Lake Tahoe!!
