Yes you need a puller! It is a light tap fit on the crank.

Thanks can't believe it's an interference fit with the crank going at speed, just a thought, you use puller for taking off what about back on.I've read on the internet that you use a certain puller then you use another piece of the kit to press back on but there's no pictures to help me get it into my head I just can't see what would help to press against to make the pulley go fully home.engine is out of the car.thank you for all your help everyone.Phil.

The force fit and key will hold the balancer in position. Most of us use a piece of pipe or wooden block to encourage the balancer into position.

Hello Ph1l, From what I have read, it appears that the part on the end of the crankshaft used to receive an engine hand crank is used during installation of the harmonic balancer. My reference book mentions that one of the puller tools called the 'driver head', is placed in the starting crank jaws. I assume that it turns the hand crank jaws into a tool to drive the balancer onto the crankshaft. I hope that you'll be able to make sense of the written discriptions given in the reference books. Words such as 'assemble until removed' and 'drive into position using puller screw' tend to make me think, WHAT?
