I just bought a 55 with a 265 and 3 speed manual. It is not a power pack car. It has a single exhaust. Would duals have been a dealer installed item? Also, when the clutch pedal is all the way up it is 3 or 4 inches above the brake pedal. I presume adjustment is in order, but should there be a a bar with a rubber bumper on it to stop the upward travel of the pedal? Sid

Looking at the 1955 accessory list and the RPO's (regular production options), dual exhaust is not listed in either section. Perhaps folks ordered the dual exhaust system, piece by piece, through the parts catalog. The RPO code listings offers a 4 bbl carb or a power pack option. The power pack option, among other goodies, included the duals and the 4 bbl, but it appears a 4 bbl could be ordered separately, by itself. No indication that one RPO code needed to be ordered in conjunction with the other RPO code, in this case. Is your 3 speed a factory application or a conversion? Sounds like you have a rubber stop missing. Look at this link. Rubber stop and bracket is shown in upper illustration. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955/55csm06r03.html

Chevrolet made and sold a dual exhaust kit for 2 barrel engine cars. It was for dealer or owner instalation. The kit contained the right side muffler and tail and exhaust pipes. The cross over pipe (on left side) was cut and a plug installed in the branch coming to the right side. The kit also contained the right side hangers, etc. and the brake and gas lines to be run on the outside of the frame. Also contained two of the accessory cast tail pipt extensions. Thr kit was also made for 1956 models. It was sold under a part number, not an accessory . I had an article in the G&D several years back explaining it in more detail

The clutch pedal height adjustments are covered on page 6r-2 of the 1955 shop manual.

Hi Sid,
My clutch pedal is about one inch taller than the brake pedal. I have the 3 speed and the power pack option.

I found the bracket and rubber bumper under the dash. The clutch linkage rest against it. The bracket was bent, so I took it off and straightened it, reinstalled it, and added a couple layers of rubber from a split rubber hose. Now the pedal is about an inch higher than the brake pedal. That inch is free travel. Sid
