Hello everyone, pulled piston number six out to measure for rings and guess what, there's a set of train lines stop to bottom of the cylinder bore, and they are deep.they have been made by the gudgion pin,the piston has been replaced at sometime.so what do I do,I don't know what the Max bore out these blocks can take,I don't want to make it into a dragster can you throw some of your thoughts into the mix (and take it easy I'm not made of money you know)thanks Phil UK.

I would measure all the other cylinders and determine if they need boring. Then the heavily scored cylinder can be sleeved if necessary and then bored to a like size to keep all cylinders the same. Oversize gudgeon pins are available and will probably be needed to prevent a repeat of the problem.

Hi Ph1l
The standard bore size for 1931 is 3 5/16" my workshop manual doesn't talk any more than .020" oversize, not sure what the max. Is.

My 32 was bored .030 and if my memory serves correct the machine shop said .060 was the max. without sleeving. Most likely the machine shop that you use will have answers for most if not all your questions regarding boring and checking the block. You will not know what size you need until the machine shop checks it.

Once you get the bore determined put a listing in the wanted section for pistons, rings & whatever. Some of the guys here have their own inventory of parts. I know you live a few blocks from most of us. I bought all my new valves on e-bay for next to nothing. Just some thought to hopefully save you some money....Joe

Stripping down completely is a good idea so you can gat an idea of ALL the parts you will need for reassembly. Pay particular attention to the crankshaft bearings.
